Join Supervisor Don Clavin at Town Park, Point Lookout on Saturday, June 28 for a heartfelt Salute to Our Veterans — a full day of family fun, community pride, and summer celebration. (Rain date: Sunday, June 29)

This free event honors our heroes with an exciting lineup of activities, including a hot dog eating contest, a sandcastle competition, and plenty more for all ages to enjoy. Explore unique finds from craft vendors, grab tasty bites from food trucks, and relax in the beer garden.

As the sun sets, gather for an electrifying evening concert performed by The Commodores followed by a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the sky in celebration of our veterans.

Don’t miss this unforgettable day of tribute, fun, and summer spirit!

Hot dog eating competition rules

Town of Hempstead – Hot Dog Eating Contest – June 28, 2025

Rules and Regulations

1. Contestants must be 18 years of age or older to enter.
2. Contestants may not touch hot dogs until the starting signal.
3. The entire hot dog must be completely eaten to be counted as one (an entire hot dog includes the bun). Partially eaten hot dogs are also counted in quarters.
4. Contestants will have 10 minutes to consume all the hot dogs they can eat.
5. Contestants may drink any non-alcoholic beverage of their choice. Water will be provided.
6. Utensils and condiments cannot be used.
7. Hot dogs and buns can be dipped into a beverage, but for no longer than five seconds.
8. We urge contestants to stop competing if they are starting to not feel well.
9. If a competitor throws up, they will be disqualified.
10. If there is a tie, contestants involved will be given five hot dogs to eat the fastest. Whoever finishes first will be declared the winner.

Sandcastle Building Competition Rules 

1. Time limit is 90 minutes.
2. Contestant/team with the highest number of points out of sixty (60) points will win first place, second highest number of points will win second place and third highest number of points will win third place.
